Planning to Reopen
Video update "5/13/20" below speaks to this document.
“Virtual” gathering is not the ideal. Meeting together as a local body of believers is modeled in God’s Word (Acts 2:42-47) and commanded (Hebrews 10:24-25). By God’s design, believers in Jesus Christ are to do life as part of a community, a body, a fellowship, a family. Over and over, the New Testament sees those who have been saved by God’s grace as joined to Christ and to one another.
But, Scripture also commands us to love our neighbor as we already love self (Mark 12:31), to help those who are especially weak and vulnerable (Psalm 82:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:14), and to submit to our governing authorities as those placed over us by God (Romans 13:1). Toward that end, the Elder Team believes the best action we can take at this time is to make use of the technology provided by God’s grace, and meet online for worship gatherings, Home Groups, and for fellowship.
In striving to be obedient to Hebrews 10:24-25, we want to urge you to avail yourself of those same resources to stay in fellowship with your church family by phone, by text, by email, and by video conversations.
We are praying that our mighty God will bring an end to this deadly pandemic, and that He will enable us to meet again face-to-face. We are also making regular donations to the Lorton Community Action Center to help those struggling in our area, and we are striving to care for needs within our flock, while providing for church staff and missionaries. Thank you for supporting the work of God’s ministry at GBC by donating online.
