Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC)
We partner with LCAC, a local nonprofit community organization which seeks to provide low-income individuals, senior citizens, and families residing in Fort Belvoir, Lorton, Newington and other portions of southeast Fairfax County, with access to basic needs and training. LCAC distributes food to more than 2,200 people through their food pantry, supports more than 500 children through our after-school and tutoring program, provides winter coats to more than 900 people, provide gifts, food and toys to more than 2,800 people during the holiday season, and teaches more than 200 individuals with improved English skills through their ESL program.
We provide volunteer support and participate in the annual Fall for LCAC Festival, National Night Out, and Christmas Dinner program. Additionally, our Home Groups also provide volunteers in the food pantry and other service areas. What's more, twice a year in April and August we put on an Outreach Week at LCAC, in Lorton Park, serving over 60 children through the summer lunch program, a weeklong vacation Bible school program, and other activities.
Volunteers play an integral role in all aspects of LCAC's programs and services. If you are interested in finding out more about our partnership with LCAC or volunteering yourself, please fill out the form below.
Please note that a simple background check is required to participate in this ministry, as with all our ministries involving children.
Harmony at Spring Hill (Harmony)
Harmony is an assisted living and memory care facility located in Lorton. On the first Sunday of every month, we host an afternoon worship service for the residents that includes teaching from Scripture, prayer, and singing. Additionally, twice a month, we host an evening Bible study for the residents. Volunteers may also make special visits during the week to minister to and spend time with residents.
We also host a special worship service at Christmas and Easter with a musical program performed by our GraceKids ministry.
If you’d like to participate in this ministry and show the love of Christ to the residents of Harmony, please fill out the form below. Additionally, you can sign up to help by clicking here.
Assist Pregnancy Center (Assist)
We partner with Assist, a Christ-centered non-profit ministry working to encourage, educate, and empower women and men to make life-giving decisions for themselves and their unborn children. Through the provision of no-cost medical services to confirm and date pregnancy, pregnancy options counseling, and practical assistance, Assist comes alongside abortion-vulnerable individuals to affirm life and share the hope found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Since 1990, God has worked through Assist to save over 1,000 babies.
Each year we participate in the Baby Bottle Drive to help them raise funds for this critical ministry. Additionally, Assist offers several volunteer opportunities, including training, for those interested in supporting this ministry.
If you're interested in learning more about Assist or volunteering with them, please fill out the form below.
Lorton Farmer's Market
Each year, from May to November, Fairfax County hosts a farmer’s market in Lorton in the Virginia Railway Express parking lot down the street from GBC. Once a month, on Sunday, we set up a booth so that we can meet our neighbors and invite them to worship with us at GBC. The booth is staffed by GBC volunteers who engage in conversations with our neighbors who frequent the farmer's market and often provide a craft or other activity for children.
If you're interested in participating in this ministry, please email Whitney Pipkin or you can fill out form below.
Military Ministry
God has placed us near Fort Belvoir and not too far from the Marine Corps Base Quantico, so we have the privilege of serving and doing life with brothers and sisters in Christ who serve in the military. In conjunction with our Military Ministry, we hold outreach events several times a year on Fort Belvoir to bring Christian fellowship and the gospel to our military families.
For more info on these events and to learn how to volunteer, please go to the Military Ministry page or you can fill out the form below.
Prayer & Evangelism Walks
On the 2nd Saturday of each month, beginning in April, we walk around our community to pray for them and to share the gospel. We meet at 10:00 AM in the GBC parking lot and walk around until Noon, praying for and with our neighbors and sharing the gospel.
If you'd like to join us for a prayer and evangelism walk, please fill out the form below.
GAGA Ball at Lorton Park
